David P. Bartholomew

David Bartholomew moved to Beaufort in May 2017 after completing his studies at Charleston School of Law (CSOL).  While in law school, David served as President of the CSOL chapter of the SC Bar: Law Student Affiliate Division (LSAD) from 2016-2017 and as Vice President from 2015-2016.  He was an editor for the Maritime Law Bulletin (MALABU) which is a student led legal journal regarding maritime issues.  David was awarded the William Bennett Regan Award for Outstanding Leadership and Commitment to Public Service during the May 2017 commencement ceremony at CSOL.  He also received a Pro Bono Award for volunteering more than 560 hours while clerking at the Charleston County Public Defender’s Office.

Prior to moving to South Carolina, David resided in Greensboro, NC, where he attended school at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Greensboro College.  He received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and graduated cum laude from Greensboro College in May 2013.  David was awarded membership to the Psi Chi International Honor Society while at Greensboro College.

David opened his own law firm shortly after passing the bar exam and his firm provided the public defender services to the Town of Hilton Head.  This portion of his practice led him to begin work for the Beaufort County Public Defenders Office.  He was with the public defender’s office for nearly two years before leaving to work with Schiller & Hamilton Law Firm.  David was elected to Beaufort County Council in 2022 and sworn in on January 2023.  He is currently serving a four year term as the representative for District 2 for Beaufort County.  David is also an Eagle Scout and strives to live his life by the lessons he learned while in scouts.  He is active in his community and donates his time to several service organizations and non-profits such as Lowcountry Legal Volunteers as well as individuals that need help in the LowCountry.  David truly enjoys helping and serving his community.
